Some of the “Life Underground” figures in the 14th Street - 8th Avenue subway station. These little buddies are all over the place!

As if a sleeping soul grew happy and smiled,
The whole dark city radiantly blooms.

I heard 30 Rock was filming near Grand Central Station today, so I went down to take a look.

Picture 1: I knew I was in the right place when I saw this sign. There were trailers nearby, and some equipment trucks .. but I couldn’t for the life of me find where they were filming.

Picture 2: Eventually I stumbled upon a subway entrance with this sign posted.

Picture 3: I went down into the station and finally found the set. Lots of crew sitting around, as if they were waiting something. (Note the grey-haired woman on the left, and the woman with the purple scarf towards the center. These are both stand-ins for Tina Fey!)

Picture 4: After waiting a while, a train pulled into the station. Each car was filled with something different. One car had craft services in it. One car was filled with wardrobe. One car had several cameras and editing equipment. One car was filled with extras. One car had a mariachi band.

Picture 5: This is Tina Fey’s stand-in hard at work. They set up the shot and marked it a few times, I guess to make sure lights and everything were how they wanted them.

Picture 6: This is the real Tina Fey! She was costumed as a crazy old lady. I got to watch them run through this scene a few times: Old lady-version Liz Lemon walks onto the subway train. She sees a group of young men occupying the subway seats. She approaches them and makes a crazy face, they scatter. She sits down, looking pleased with herself.
